Move backwards while turning, and notice how much more responsive the ship is to requests to twist and spin when doing so. I think the red one is either the leader, or the one with the short-range long-duration beam weapon they don't often last long enough for me to ask them. Aim for the middle of the red one, and start blasting as soon as you have a targeting reticle. Notice that one is red, and the rest are white. Watch for the expanding circles in space that indicate where the bad guys will be warping in. You can hit your communicator to whine and plead with them to let you give them your lunch money (or speed up the waiting game before they attack you), or you can just wait it out (maybe use this time to move some inventory, like I told you to do earlier). If you're being scanned, they're coming to you. I call this maneuver "turn and burn," and it can often end the fight before the bad guy(s) even figure out they're in one. You'll fly right past them at high speed, so hit reverse and whip around as fast as you can to line up your shots. If you have to chase down a bounty, simply look at the positional display (it's not exactly a map or radar, but close enough for this purpose) to find the bad guy, point yourself in that direction, line up on the star-shaped indicator (tag it, if you'd like, but it will auto-center anyway so long as it's inside the larger circle in the middle of your screen), then hit your pulse drive to warp to them. When the timer finishes counting down, you discover whether you have to chase down the bounty ("WARNING: THREAT DETECTED"), or if the pirates are coming to you ("WARNING: HOSTILE SCAN INITIATED"). You have a few seconds before the fun breaks loose, so chuck a few items into your exosuit inventory to make sure you can pick up the free loot in your ship. Watch the circular indicator on your control panel if it switches to a timer-looking countdown indicator, move out of any asteroid field you might be in (to give yourself some elbow room) and check your inventory to make sure you have room in your ship to pick up the free goodies. I'm not a pro gamer, but I've noticed a few things about their behavior that might be helpful to you here's a quick rundown on space combat in No Man's Sky: Pirates really are free loot, too they're not at all scary, even in small groups. Running away from free loot is shameful you should have your gamer badge pulled. If you kill them, you get a standing increase with the local system's controlling race, free chromatic metal, and other valuable loot. If you died because "the save is too fresh, I'm too weak," then your save is so fresh that it shouldn't take you more than a few minutes to get back where you already are, especially now that you've had a "practice run" grow some fur and at least pretend you can handle yourself like a proper space anomaly. Bufferlow:You also are guaranteed at least one pirate attack in each new system.but you can run when you are fresh to a save and they are no harder than normal mode.
